Sandra M. Lauriat, MD, FACP and Freda L. Levy, MD, FACP of Dallas Nephrology Associates recently presented “Everyday Heroes Living with Kidney Disease” at the National Kidney Foundation’s Patient & Communication Education Seminar & Luncheon.
The event was held at the Doubletree Hotel Dallas in Dallas, TX on March 13, 2016 and was attended by 130 participants. Presentations and networking opportunities provided education about chronic kidney disease and allowed those affected by it to meet and connect with other patients, caregivers, and kidney health professionals.
Dr. Lauriat’s presentation, “Ask the Nephrologist,” provided an interactive forum where patients and their family members could ask the kidney expert questions about their kidney health. Topics included understanding their diagnosis, being an active participant in their own treatment plan, and discussing treatment options.
Dr. Levy’s breakout session, “Kidney Transplantation 101,” focused on treatment options for patients with kidney disease who choose transplantation. Dr. Levy explained the kidney transplantation process with an overview of the transplantation definition, history, donor types, criteria, evaluation, and the pre work-up process. Her session was followed up with a question and answer forum for attendees.
