DNA was recently recognized for raising awareness about kidney disease when they received the Burl Osborne Award at the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Bonne Santé fundraising event. This award recognized DNA as the Kidney Walk Chair for 2014 and for involvement in many NKF programs. These include but are not limited to board and committee representation, sponsorships of the annual Ft Worth and Dallas Kidney Walks, Bonne Santé and Patient Education Seminars. In the words of Holly Torres of the NKF, “We could not do what we do without the support of DNA”. Dr. Paul Skluzacek accepted the award on behalf of DNA.
The Burl Osborne Awareness Award was created in 2012 and celebrates the life of former board member of National Kidney Foundation and executive editor and publisher of The Dallas Morning News, Burl Osborne, who passed away on August 15, 2012. Burl was the third recipient of an experimental anti-rejection technique for a kidney transplant in 1966 when he was only 29 years old.
