    What is telemedicine?

Telemedicine, also referred to as a “virtual visit” or “tele-visits” or “tele-health”, allows you to meet with your doctor over the phone or through video chat.

What do I need to have in order to have a telemedicine appointment with my doctor?

All you need is a smartphone with internet access. Prior to your appointment, you will need to provide consent. Please review our Telemedicine Guidelines and Tips for a smooth visit.

Where does a telemedicine appointment take place?

You can have your appointment from anywhere private, like your home or another quiet location. Public or semi-public places are not suitable for telemedicine appointments.

    Is telemedicine HIPAA-compliant?

Yes, our telemedicine services comply with HIPAA regulations.

Do I need to download an app?

No, you do not need to download an app for tele-visits. You only need a smartphone with audio and video capabilities. You will receive a text message with a link to join at the time of your appointment.

How do I schedule a telemedicine appointment at Dallas Nephrology Associates?

We are currently offering telemedicine appointments for routine visits for existing patients and urgent visits for new patients. Simply contact your DNA office to inquire about scheduling a telemedicine appointment. You may also request a telemedicine appointment via MyChart.  Your doctor will determine if an in-person visit is necessary.

What if I scheduled an in-clinic visit, but need to switch to tele-medicine?

Contact our office to discuss if a telemedicine visit is suitable for you.

    Does my insurance cover telemedicine?

Do I have to pay for a telemedicine appointment?

Yes, tele-visits are an alternate option to an in-clinic visit, and copays, co-insurance and deductible are applicable just as they would be if you were in the clinic. You will get a call ahead of time to check you in for the appointment and to collect your payment. You may also choose to check in and pay for the visit via MyChart.
